I graduated as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, and then as a Master's degree in Animal Science, with an emphasis on Wildlife Management, from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine from University of San Carlos in Guatemala. Currently, I am a doctoral candidate in Conservation Medicine program from Andres Bello University (UNAB) in Santiago, Chile. My doctoral research focuses on biogeographic and phylogenetic strategies for rodent conservation. Prior to my doctoral research, my studies focused on zoonotic parasites in rodents and cockroaches, with a One Health approach. I worked and led projects that gave me experience in the management, capture and sampling of domestic and wild animals.
During my doctoral thesis, I have learned basic and molecular sample processing techniques, and bioinformatic analysis, in the Evolution & Biodiversity Laboratory of UNAB. My research interests include zoonoses, conservation, biogeography and phylogeography. Also, I am very interested in collaborating with the scientific community, which has led me to contribute to diffusion of science to society, and to be a member for more than five years in the bioethics committee of animal use and care of the University of the Valley from Guatemala.
When I'm not working, I like to hike to appreciate nature, climb volcanoes, and spend time with my family.
I thank to the team Escobar Lab for the opportunity to do an internship in the Laboratory of Disease Ecology & Biogeography. It has been a great experience of both professional and personal growth.
